National Skilled Trades Day: Building the Next Generation of Construction Leaders
Behind every project are skilled professionals who bring it to life. Today, that future workforce is already taking shape in classrooms across Southern Nevada.
At Southeast Career and Technical Academy (SECTA), students are learning about construction through hands-on projects and real-world application, building the technical skills, problem-solving and work ethic required on today’s jobsites.
That connection between classroom and workforce development came to life during SECTA’s senior capstone presentations where students had the opportunity to showcase their work. Nigro Construction team members served as judges and advisors, evaluating each project and helping students understand what it takes to succeed in the skilled trades.
“The skills that matter most are time management and building connections,” said Jordan Green, Superintendent at Nigro Construction, “It’s about putting your name out there, talking to the right people, shaking hands and being willing to learn a little bit about everything.”
Events like these are part of a larger effort to build the skilled trades pipeline. By engaging directly with students, Nigro is helping bridge the gap between education and the industry, ensuring the next generation is prepared to enter the workforce with confidence.
This National Skilled Trades Day, we celebrate not just the professionals building our communities, but the students, educators and partnerships working together to build what comes next.
