At Nigro Construction, project managers Kayla Danielson and Caitlin Johnson are part of that evolution. "Construction is a team effort from start to finish," Danielson said. "There are so many moving pieces on a project, and our role is to keep everything organized and moving forward. Seeing a building come together because of that teamwork is incredibly rewarding."

Caitlin Johnson agrees that organization and communication are essential skills.

"Construction isn’t just about what happens in the field," Johnson said. "It’s about planning, coordination and problem-solving. If you can stay organized and work well with people, you can succeed in this industry."

These transferable skills are one reason more women are transitioning into construction careers, particularly in project management roles where communication and leadership play a central role.

"Nigro understands that family comes first," Danielson said. "If one of our kids needs us, we can step away, handle what we need to and then get back to work. That flexibility allows us to be present for our families while still managing our projects and responsibilities."

"One of the best feelings is driving through the city and being able to say, ‘I helped build that," she said. "It’s a career where you can see the results of your work and know you were part of something meaningful."
